So I rent a 10-foot Budget truck for my one-way move from PA to new england. To be safe, I made my reservation more than 1 month in advance, and called this rental location to CONFIRM my reservation.
But that was not all.
Second fail: ONE DAY before my pick-up date, the location called me in the afternoon and said that there was no truck for me ... saying that he was checking the neighboring locations to see if he could get a substitute for me and would call me back in half an hour ... of coz he never called back. I called Budget customer service and was throwing around with no real solution. I had to call the location back after an hour since I didn't hear from them, he went on blah blah blah and offered no real help whatsoever. Yeah right, even you made your reservation well in advance and called the location to confirm your truck, we ran out of the truck...somehow, so there was nothing we can do. What is that? I mean if you ever move, you would know that moving itself is painful enough, and now I have to worry about not getting a moving truck ONE DAY before my move?
Third fail: As if it were not enough, couple of days later, I found that I was charged $50 dollars for "not showing up for the Budget truck reservation"! Cannot believe that they have the gut to charge me after all the dramas! Called back to the location, and the boy again offered no help but "I am sorry, I forgot to cancel your reservation". Had to call Budget customer service to get my money back...
At this point one may think that is about it and it is enough for the dismay. But this is not all.
To say that I was terribly frustrated is an understatement, but my frustration does not help get me a truck from Budget. The boy said that my truck was canceled because of "no truck" and he was "sorry about the inconvenience, but your card will not be charged". I switched to UHual, which fortunately is much more organized and I was able to get a truck. Since I had to rental UHaul in the last minute, the rate is apparently much higher, but hey, when you got to move, you got to move. At least UHaul has a truck for me!
First fail: When I made the reservation online, it says that this location is open till 6pm, since I am on tight schedule that day, I chose to pick up at 5:30pm. However, when I called, the boy said that it will be closed at 4:00pm. WTH? OK, I gave and agreed to pick it up by 4:00pm (that would mean I have to get up at 5:00am in the morning that day...but I guess that is not the end of the world)
AVOID this place at all costs if you could, customer doesn't mean a thing to these people. You may get a better rate if you make your reservation in advance, but trust me, if things ever went slightly wrong, you will find yourself in the middle of nowhere and your reservation doesn't mean a thing...except when they want to charge you.
